# Record Types

## Standard Types

| Type                  | How to use it                                                                        |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Expense**           | Choose a paying account and expense category; saving reduces the account balance     |
| **Income**            | Choose a receiving account and income category; saving increases the account balance |
| **Transfer**          | Choose the source and destination accounts; both balances change together            |
| **Currency Exchange** | Enter both amounts or an exchange rate for accounts in different currencies          |
| **Balance Update**    | Enter an account's actual current balance and let Daak create an adjustment record   |

## Loans and Reimbursements

| Type                      | Access and action                                                                 |
| ------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Lend / Borrow**         | Open it from Loans or the record type menu, then enter the person and account     |
| **Collect / Repay**       | Continue from the related loan and record a full or partial amount                |
| **Pending Reimbursement** | Enable it while adding an expense, then process the expense from Reimbursements   |
| **Refund**                | Start from the original expense and enter the refund amount and receiving account |

## Plans and Investments

Savings, Installments, Fixed Deposits, and Investments create linked records. These include savings deposits and withdrawals, installment repayments, fixed-deposit interest, purchases, sales, distributions, and dividends.

Edit linked records from their plan or investment page whenever possible. That page keeps periods, progress, holdings, and returns in sync.

## Reward Types

After enabling Rewards for an account, you can record cash rewards, point rewards, and point redemptions. These records update the account's cash or point statistics. See [Account Rewards](/assets/rewards.md) for instructions.
